December 14, 2015

TPWD Announce Speakers; Date Set for January 12

Since the discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease in farmed deer in Texas, the local cervid industry and government agencies have greatly increased their interest in a live test. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) staff have worked to create a CWD ante-mortem testing symposium to be held on January 12, 2016 in Austin, Texas.

According to Clayton Wolf of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the following speakers have been confirmed:
Dr. Lisa Wolfe, DVM, Co. Parks and Wildlife
Dr. Nathan Shotts, DVM, VERGE Group
Dr. Mike Miller, DVM, Co. Parks and Wildlife
Dr. Nicholas Haley, DVM, PhD, Midwestern University
 Dr. Tracy Nichols, PhD, USDA-APHIS-WS
Dr. Alecia Naugle, DVM, PhD, USDA-APHIS-VS- Note: Dr. Naugle has requested that Dr. Randy Pritchard present on her behalf.

Last month, six cervid organizations with Texas membership published a joint letter with recommendations for symposium speakers. Most of the recommendations were included in the symposium lineup.

An effort is being made to make the broadcast the symposium online for stakeholders around the country that cannot attend.
More information will be share as it comes available.
