ACA Applauds Indiana Supreme Court Order Denying DNR Appeal

Supreme Court Order Upholds Private Property Rights for Hunting Ranches

Ayr, NE—Today the American Cervid Alliance, which represents deer and elk farmers across the country, applauded the Indiana Supreme Court for denying an appeal made by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources regarding regulation of hunting ranches. The litigation stems from the DNR’s reckless attempt in 2005 to shut down all private hunting ranches in the state. In February, the Court of Appeals ruled against the DNR, stating that the agency went “beyond the express powers” given to it by law, and the Supreme Court declined to hear the state’s petition.

The order can be read at: https://publicaccess.courts.in.gov/docket/Search/Detail?casenumber=31A041310PL00502#hnde

Charly Seale, ACA media committee member, issued the following statement: “The Indiana DNR overstepped its authority in trying to shut down lawfully operated hunting preserves. This order from the Supreme Court is a win for businesses and for private property rights, and strikes a blow to a biased bureaucracy.”
